Jeremy Groom

Acting Deputy Office Director for Reactor Programs

NRC

Mr. Jeremy R. Groom currently serves as the Acting Deputy Office Director for Reactor Programs in the Division of Reactor Oversight (NRR) where he oversees the NRC’s licensing and oversight programs for the operating reactor fleet.  Prior to this assignment, Mr. Groom served as the acting Director, Division of Radiological Safety and Security, Region IV, where is oversees the materials licensing and inspection programs associated with decommissioning, uranium recovery, permanently shut down reactors, independent spent fuel storage installations (ISFSI), as well as the radiation protection, physical security, and emergency preparedness inspection programs at the 12 operating reactor sites located in Region IV. 
Mr. Groom began his career with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) in 2005 as a reactor inspector in Region IV. From 2008 to 2015, he played a key role in implementing the NRC’s reactor oversight process, initially as the resident inspector at the Callaway Energy Center and later as the senior resident inspector at Columbia Generating Station. During this period, he also led several significant oversight activities for the Fort Calhoun Station while it was shutdown for performance issues and placed under special NRC oversight.
In 2015, Mr. Groom was selected as the Region IV Branch Chief, where he managed NRC inspections, assessments, allegation follow-ups, and enforcement activities at the Columbia Generating Station, Diablo Canyon, and Comanche Peak reactor sites. He has since held several additional management roles, including Branch Chief for Region IV’s Physical Security Branch and Team Leader for the Region IV Allegation Coordination and Enforcement Staff. Mr. Groom has also completed a range of temporary assignments, including serving as acting Deputy Director for the Division of Inspection and Regional Support in NRR, where he led activities to inspect and assess licensee performance at light-water power reactors and vendors. Most recently, he served as acting Deputy Director for the Division of Decommissioning, Uranium Recovery, and Waste Programs in NMSS, overseeing NRC's regulation of decommissioning, low-level waste (LLW), and uranium recovery programs, including decommissioning oversight for materials, power, and non-power reactors.
A U.S. Navy submarine force veteran, Mr. Groom holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Syracuse University. He is also a graduate of the NRC’s SES Candidate Development Program and has been recognized with the NRC Meritorious Service Award.
