Lauren Lathem
Advanced Nuclear Program Manager
Southern Company
Lauren Lathem is the Advanced Nuclear Program Manager in Southern Company’s Research, Environment and Sustainability organization. She leads an R&D portfolio of non-light water reactor technology projects, with the goal of bridging the gap between early stage research and industry adoption.
Her work includes setting technical strategy, building and managing partnerships with national labs, universities, industry, and the federal government, and overseeing large, multi‑institution research projects. By managing the Molten Chloride Reactor Experiment—the world’s first fast spectrum molten salt reactor— Lauren and her team at Southern Company are helping generate the data and operational experience needed to streamline design, reduce uncertainty, and enable cheaper, faster deployment of advanced nuclear technology.
