Devon Thompson

Devon Thompson began his nuclear career Southern Company in 2006 as a Reactor Engineering co-op at Plant Vogtle. In 2012, Devon accepted an opportunity to pursue a senior reactor operator license, completing this training in 2014 and joining shift operations as a shift support supervisor. Devon contributed to safe operation of the nuclear unit while performing in various roles as part of the operations department before moving into management as the operations training manager and eventually training director. In 2018 Devon was given the opportunity to work at Plant Hatch as part of their recovery team. He then transitioned back to plant operations at Vogtle as a Shift Manager. In 2024 Devon accepted a position as the Plant Support Senior Manager, responsible for overall engineering leadership and the strategic long-term functions of plant equipment reliability. In this position, he led the system and component engineering team in their strategic planning functions and was ultimately responsible for the preventative maintenance and equipment refurbishment strategies for important plant equipment. In August of 2025 he moved to Vogtle 3&4 as Assistant Operations Director and eventually Operations Director where he oversees the safe operation of the newest nuclear units in the United States.
Prior to joining Southern Company Devon, obtained his Bachelor of Science in Nuclear and Radiological Engineering from The Georgia Institute of Technology. Before then he attended boarding school at the Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts.
Devon donates blood every 8 weeks due to his unique blood-types and sub-types and has donated over 10 gallons in his lifetime so far. He also supports his wife’s career as a Neonatal ICU physician.
Originally from New Orleans, LA, Devon moved frequently as his family followed his father’s career in the Department of Defense. In his free time Devon spends time with his three daughters and plays as much pickleball as his knees allow.
