Dan Stout has 40 years in nuclear energy leadership roles for the military, industry and government. Dan is founder and managing director of Advanced Nuclear Advisors, an early-stage developer of new nuclear projects, focusing on site selection, site characterization, licensing and early decisions.
Dan most recently served as Chief Nuclear Officer for Ultra Safe Nuclear responsible for nuclear activities at a 300-person start-up company, including reactor design, nuclear licensing, operations planning, reactor factory production and project management.
Dan served as Director of Nuclear Technology and Innovation at the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), managing the organization’s new nuclear activities. He led work obtaining an Early Site Permit in 2019 from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission for TVA’s Clinch River Site for deployment of Small Modular Reactors. Prior to TVA, Dan was Director of Nuclear Fuel Recycling for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), overseeing planning, policy and technology development. Prior to that Dan managed commercial uranium enrichment activities including technology development, licensing, manufacturing and project management.
Dan served in the United States Navy as a nuclear submarine officer, as well as in the Naval Reserves in the Naval Special Warfare community, retiring as a Commander. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy and received his Master’s in Engineering Management from the National Technological University.
