Nathan Sanfilippo

Nathan Sanfilippo serves as the Director of the Division of Advanced Reactor Programs in the Office of Advanced Reactors at the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC).

Mr. Sanfilippo returned to the NRC in 2026 after spending ~5 years at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) where he served in several senior executive positions including as: Acting Assistant Secretary for Enterprise Integration; Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Office of Enterprise Integration, and an Executive Director in the Veterans Experience Office.

Mr. Sanfilippo originally joined the NRC in 2002 before departing in 2021. During that time, he served in numerous leadership roles in the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation, Region 3, the Office of the Executive Director for Operations, and the Office of the Chairman. In 2011, he was a member of the Near-Term Task Force that evaluated insights from the Fukushima nuclear accident in Japan.

He holds a Master of Public Affairs (MPA) degree from the University of Missouri, a Bachelor of Science degree in Materials Science and Engineering from the Pennsylvania State University, a Certificate in Executive Leadership from American University, and a Certificate in Legislative Studies from Georgetown University. He also completed the White House Leadership Development Program at the Office of Management and Budget (OMB).
