Mike Wautlet joined NEI in June 2025 as Director of Nuclear Supply Chain, where he develops strategies, initiatives, and programs to address supply chain challenges facing both the existing nuclear fleet and the future deployment of U.S. advanced nuclear technologies. Prior to joining NEI, Mike spent 16 years with the U.S. Department of State in foreign service and civil nuclear policy roles. His assignments included serving as Director for Nuclear Energy Policy on the National Security Council staff (2015–2016), Acting Political Chief on the Russia Desk (2017–2018), a secondment to the House Foreign Affairs Committee focused on energy and climate issues (2020–2021), and Political Chief at the U.S. Embassy in Lisbon (2022–2023). Earlier in his career, Mike worked in commercial nuclear operations and engineering at the St. Lucie Nuclear Power Plant in Florida, practiced patent and business litigation at a top international law firm in Colorado, and served as a nuclear submarine officer in the U.S. Navy. Mike holds a Juris Doctor from the University of Colorado, an MBA in International Business, and undergraduate degrees in Mechanical Engineering, French Literature, and Political Science. Board-certified as a nuclear engineer by Naval Reactors, he holds the rank of Captain in the U.S. Navy Reserve. He is a member of the Colorado bar and has a working knowledge of French and Portuguese.
